CRYSTAL DIRECTOR STANDING IN CIPR COUNCIL ELECTION

Crystal PR Director Adam Riddell is standing in the 2014 CIPR Council Election. As Chair of the CIPR Channel Islands Group, he is contesting one of five seats from the English regions. Here's why:

I am standing for a seat on Council as I believe this is an extremely important stage in the evolution of the governing body of the CIPR as we look to connect better with members and wider stakeholders.

As a nominee from one of the smaller regional groups, I am standing on the belief that regional diversity within our governing body is important – indeed it is something that has been on the agenda for the current Council for some time, and I am keen to sustain those efforts.

In addition, I believe a broad range of age representation on Council is important, and as a PR practitioner in my early 30s and with nine years of international PR experience, I believe I also offer a good balance of experience and fresh 'young' enthusiasm.

As a member of Council, I would look to use this drive to ensure that Council acts quickly, decisively and responsibly on behalf of members, where focus and action are the order of the day.

One of my key objectives should I be elected to Council is to input into the professionalism agenda. Whilst a lot has been achieved in this area in recent months, there is still more to do in terms of encouraging and facilitating participation in CPD amongst a broader membership, and in framing and delivering a clear professional qualification pathway that is meaningful, attainable and relevant – for those starting out in a career in PR right through to more senior professionals and where Chartered status is concerned.

Having taken over as Chair of the Channel Islands Group in 2014 but having been involved in the Group since its inception in 2008, I helped set up the delivery for the first time ever of CIPR qualifications locally in the Channel Islands and continue to be fully involved in the programme of training events we hold locally. An Accredited Practitioner, I have worked in international financial services PR for almost nine years and, as well as my involvement in the regional CIPR Group, I am also Chair the IoD Jersey's PR sub-committee.
