The Crystal PR ‘2016 Crown Dependency Tweet-dex’

Crystal PR’s annual ‘Crown Dependency Tweet-dex’ measures the activity of media based in the Crown Dependencies (Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man) on popular social media platform Twitter and tracks their influence over social media platforms more widely.

The initiative was first undertaken in 2011 in order to gain a better understanding of how media across the islands were using social media.

The following results were taken at the end of July 2016 and are measured against results from the same time period in 2015.

Conclusions from this year’s results are as follows:

  • Top five accounts in Tweet frequency over the course of the year were Island FM (6,584 annually), Channel TV (6,505), BBC Jersey (5,788), Isle of Man Examiner (4,600), and the Jersey Evening Post at 4,136.

  • Maintaining its position at the top of the table for numbers of followers was Channel TV (17,597), followed by BBC Radio Jersey (12,115), Channel 103 (10,208), the Guernsey Press (10,172) and the Jersey Evening Post (8,797)

  • The overall trend was for a falling Klout score across the majority of media accounts, although there are some exceptions to this rule. Business Brief jumped the most, by 11 points.

  • Nevertheless, more than half of all CD media have an above average Klout score

  • The Klout score highlights that accounts that have the most tweets or followers are not necessarily the accounts with the highest Klout scores. Interaction with followers and quality over quantity is what raises an account’s Klout score

Of particular note was Bailiwick Express, which tweeted 2,091 times over the year, gained 927 followers, and rose its Klout score to 48. Tweet Frequency

The ‘Klout’ metric looks across each media’s social media activity, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. and gives it an influence score based on the size of each media’s network, its content, and how it interacts with its network. The average Klout score is 40. The Klout measurements for July 2016 are as follows:
